Who's she gonna look like??

Michelle Lynn Hasbrouck born January 22, 1985 @ 1:31am, weighing 6lbs 8oz and 19in long
Kevin Christopher Raasch born December 19, 1982 @ 9:37pm, weighing 7lbs 7oz and 20in long

Kevin looks like he was either thinking real hard, or pooping in this picture (haha), and I look swollen with a mohawk! At least we both had hair...thats good news. And yes, so far I think she does have my nose and lips. But I am hoping for Kevin's baby blue eyes!!

Baby Profile!

Today I am 26 weeks and 4 days :) This morning we went in for another ultrasound, because during our 20 week mid-pregnancy ultrasound they didn't get good pictures of her eyes (to see how far apart they are) or lips (to make sure no cleft lip) since she was head down with her face smooshed into my placenta...which she still kind of was today, but she was moving a lot, playing with her toes & opening her mouth to drink the amniotic fluid, haha, and she finally turned her face for the sonographer to get a side profile pic. She then turned on the 3D, and its not the greatest because her face is so close up to my uterus wall, and I guess there needs to be more fluid in front of the face to get a clear shot, and the umbilical cord was kinda floatin around in front of her face, and her hand...but you can see her eyelid, nose and lips :) Kevin thinks she has the "Hasbrouck" nose, but I just think all babies pretty much have the same nose at birth...we'll have to pull out both our newborn pics to compare! I just cant wait to meet her and see what she really looks like. Blonde or brunette? Blue or brown eyes? etc... Either way, all went well and she's still a healthy little girl!!!

We chose a DAYCARE!!

After emailing 20+ providers and doing 4 interviews....we've chosen a daycare provider for our sweet baby girl! And it feels great to have this decision made and out of the way :) It's an in-home daycare called Safari Kids! We interviewed with them just last night and were so impressed we decided right away...plus they had many other inquiries, we didn't want to lose the opportunity. There are 2 lady's running it, Colleen & Heather - mother/daughter. They actually just opened up Jan 1, but Colleen has 20+ years of daycare experience. She ran an in home daycare when she raised her kids, then opened her own center in Chaska, and then when she sold it, she ran the preschool program at a church (actually the church Kevin grew up going to - Shepard of the Lake Lutheran Church). And the younger daughter (my age) went to the U of M, got her undergrad in Family Social Science, then got her Master's in Early Childhood Education. She taught English in Tanzania for a few months, then got pregnant, so has a 6mo old baby girl - Layla, and is getting married this summer. It's only 4 miles down the street from our house in Prior Lake (off Hwy13) and so a bus picks up for the Prior Lake School District - Five Hawks Elementary (which I subbed there many times and just loved the school and staff), although a lot can change in the next 5 years, but it is a plus! They are $175/week (or $38/day) and is open M-F 6am-6pm. Perfect! They have a huge set up, spacious, not cluttered, clean and very nice stuff. There is a whole separate space where there are pack'n'plays for naps, swings, bouncers, toys & a changing table station - you know me and organization. They have an outdoor playground (on their 8 acres) and will have a garden this summer - right up Kevin's alley, haha...we just loved everything! They only have 6 kids right now, because they just opened up, but can have 12-14, depending on ages. It's nice though because one can focus on the babies & toddlers (4 kids under age 2) and the other can work with the preschool age (8-10 kids, but some are school aged where they only come part of the day). We only have to put a one weeks deposit down to save our spot all the way out til August. We thought, this is too good to be true...we'll take it! ahhhh ~ sigh of relief :)

Pom Pom Mobile

This will have to be a post in progress, because this little craft is more time consuming than I originally thought. It's easy, just takes a while to trace, cut out and glue on. I am in the process of making a fabric "pom pom mobile" for above the crib, except it wont really spin around, so I guess its not a mobile, its just cute decor! As always, its something I saw on Pinterest, and followed these blogs...
DIY Poms with fabric & paper lanterns
DIY Poms with any material & styrofoam balls

This was actually my first project I started for baby's room - Dec 16 craft date with my friend Serena. Then I put it off for a while and finally finished this one pom last night.
I still have 2 more to do... I am doing the same 3 shades of purple "ombre" as the crib skirt. Sorry, my camera doesn't always show the colors accurately, but it is purple, not blue :)

Accent Wall Stencil

Talk about tedious and time consuming!!!! My friend Courtney talked me into doing a fancy accent wall, instead of plain stripes, so I bought this Casablanca Allover Stencil. I know it will look great when done, but it is pretty difficult to do. There is a trick to it...have very little paint on your sponge roller and do 3-4 really light coats (they dry fast) - that way it wont bleed. It did bleed a few times on me at first, but it was easy to touch up with a tiny paint brush and the gray paint. The hardest part will be the edges, because you have to use smaller, single stencils and fold them around the trim and ceiling edges. Not fun. And with my eye I cant see looking up towards the ceiling, so Kevin may just have to finish this one for me... Because she is worth it, right?

My 28th Birthday

I had a wonderful birthday! -despite the fact that I wasn't out drinking, partying & getting my groove on like in past years :) Since two of my besties have birthdays the same week...a bunch of us went out for Sunday brunch at Enjoy! in Apple Valley. They had an amazing buffet...we really did have breakfast and lunch! Haha! Here a few pics...we had fun with my eye ;)
Birthday Girls ~ Danielle, me & Courtney
 My Besties!!!
Danielle swiped my hair across my forehead like bangs to try to distract from my eye...
And then we just decided to use the balloon to hide it :)
On Monday night, Kevin's Mom brought us over dinner...homemade chicken pot pies. They were delicious!! And she crocheted me a purple hat and gave me a gift card to Motherhood for more maternity clothes! Then on Tuesday, for my actual birthday, my parents sent me flowers at work. Kevin gave me a remote starter for my car (gets installed Thursday) and we went to dinner with my parents & brother Mike at Olive Garden. My mom also gave me the prenatal boppy pillow to help sleep better. And so although I wasn't really in the mood for my birthday this year...it was perfect!

Eye Update....January

Well…it has gotten worse, as you can see in these pictures from Nov-Dec-Jan.
I called into Park Nicollet, requesting an appointment with the Ophthalmologist (Dr Rakes), because he has yet to see my eye. I wanted to show him how bad it is getting, and possibly get reassuring words from his experience with eye disease patients. I needed him to tell me what the next steps will be for after pregnancy.

Kevin and I learned a lot from meeting with him today, and we even got to meet with his partner, Dr Pribila, who is a Pediatric & Adult Strabismus, aka “eye muscle doctor”. We really liked both Dr’s. They were genuine (had the time for me), experienced and knowledgeable with this disease.
Here are the notes to sum it all up…

--- My graves eye disease is very typical of a normal Grave’s eye disease patient. Right now it’s on the medium side on the scale of how bad Grave’s eye disease gets. However, Dr Rakes did suggest that I may be progressing faster because I am pregnant.
--- There is no way to tell if pregnancy is definitely a cause or not, there are no statistics, but both Dr's seemed to think it could be triggering my Grave’s antibodies to attack the muscles, because my immune system is out of wack and this is an auto-immune disease, but pregnant or not, both Dr’s thought this was bound to happen either way eventually.
--- Dr Rakes noticed my eye is pretty dry because it is not closing at night when I sleep. He gave me another kind of lubricant drops "Blink Tears" and wants me to put "Lacrilube" on every night. Maybe even tape my eye shut to protect the lens (yippee).
--- Both Dr's explained that Grave’s eye disease has to run its course. Typically symptoms gradually get worse over the course of a few to 6 months (from when the first signs of eye disease show up). Then they will eventually hit a plateau and start to reside. The part of when and how far back they reside is completely unknown and not predictable.
--- From their experiences, most patients land somewhere between 50% and possibly almost back to normal, and hit another plateau and level off there - where symptoms neither get better or worse. The eye will most likely stay like that forever. This would be the time to decide if I want to try surgery.
--- Some good news: My optic nerve is not inflamed, it still looks healthy, therefore I won’t go blind. In this case oral steroids are not necessary.
--- Both Dr’s recommended surgery, but not until my symptoms have stabilized (probably 3-6 months after delivering baby). The reason we have to wait until the antibodies and eye symptoms stabilize is so that we aren’t correcting something that could still potentially get worse.
--- Surgery entails 3 steps: (if required)
1. Fix the bulging eye by shaving back the bone behind the eye so that the eyeball can sit back into the socket correctly – this will typically fix some of the eye mis-alignment.
2. Fix the remaining eye mis-alignment by sculpting the muscles behind the eye to get the alignment with the other eye back to normal.
3. Fix the eyelid retraction, if any left over.
--- Dr Pribila looked at me (in my good eye-of course) and said, "I am so sorry to tell you that unfortunately this is a long road. Most likely one year from when it started. But we are going to do everything we can to get you back to normal as quickly as we can. The good news: your eye will look completely normal when complete.”
--- When I asked if I will have to deal with this all over again next pregnancy, he stated, “typically Grave's eye disease runs its course once and once it’s done, it’s done." Let’s hope this is true!!
--- Some stats he said… 75% of his patients have it in both eyes, but typically one eye is always worse than the other. And 50% of his patients have surgery.

Of course, I am no looking forward to any of this! Let's pray that after pregnancy, the antibodies completely subside and my eye just goes back to normal, where no surgery is required. We might be praying for a miracle. But one can wish, right?

My next follow-up appointment is in 6 weeks. I can meet with either one of them and they will communicate to decide the necessary action. At that point it might just be more measurements to see how I am progressing and then they'll see me again after baby comes.

In the end of it all, I feel better knowing these Dr's are on top of it and feel I am now in good hands now, although reality is...it's going to be a long 8-10 more months.

Craft date with my Mom

My mom and I had a craft date. We drove all the way out to SR Harris Fabric Outlet in Brooklyn Park (Serena came with too) and oh boy is that warehouse huge with wall-to-wall fabrics! But it was too unorganized for me...fabrics weren't displayed nicely to see the patterns (like they in in the picture here behind my mom) and weren't in color order, so we really had to dig. They did have some really neat fabrics...of course just not in the colors I was looking for. I got one gray & white designed cotton fabric for another fitted sheet & some purple checkered minky fabric, but nothing too exciting. Then we stopped at the newer JoAnn's in Shakopee and they had lots of fun fleece - 50% off!! My mom got soo excited with this "I Love Grandma" fabric, we just had to buy it and make a tie blanket. It turned out super cute...

Linea Nigra

I've actually had this line since about week 14, and this picture doesn’t show how dark it truly is, but thought I’d post about it to remember it. And for the fact that my belly button is starting to pop out as well. Eww gross. And that scar above my belly button...yeah, that’s from my belly button ring I had to have when I was 16. I know, it was time to part from it now that I am growing a baby. Anywhoo... The linea nigra is a dark vertical line that often appears between the belly button and the pubic area - in my case, from my rib cage down. It is caused by pregnancy hormones, which are also responsible for the darkening of the areolas and freckles. My face does have some new dark spots that I hope go away after pregnancy!

Glider & Ottoman

Last big piece of furniture to complete our baby room...the glider and ottoman :) This one may be a bit cheap, but I love the look of it, and didn't want to spend too much on a piece of furniture that may not get much use in the future...however its pretty comfy now! It is the Stork Craft Hoop Glider & Ottoman. You can get it at Target, Walmart or Sears, but I found it cheapest ($144) on Amazon. I can't wait to read stories and rock my baby to sleep!!!

Dresser/Changing Station

The baby's dresser arrived today!! We ordered it from Shopko because thats where we happened to find this White Shoal Creek Dresser the cheapest. I really liked this design and style. It was a million pieces to put together and took a couple hours (like the reviews said) but nothing Kevin couldn't handle :) It's very heavy duty and looks nice! Now I just need a diaper caddy and all the changing station necessities!!

UPDATE: 24 WEEKS

How Far Along: 24 weeks
Total Weight Gain: 18lbs (weighing in at 116 lbs)
Belly Circumference: 34-1/4" - I am adding this one on...wish I would have done it sooner to be able to really see how much I am growing, because each picture sort of looks the same. I mean I know I am growing, but in the morning its smaller, and as the day goes it gets tighter, like its stretching, and by night time I feel largest!
Nausea: None.
Mood Swings: Still miserable about my eye. Just the fact that it looks horrible and there is nothing I can do about it. I just pray it really goes back to normal after pregnancy. Sometimes I just cry in frustration. It is what it is.
Food Cravings: Cereal. Popcorn. Ice cream sandwiches.
Other Symptoms: Anxiety, a symptom of my Grave's disease, but I think its also just the fact that pregnancy takes your control away. Baby is controlling my body these days, therefore its hard to do what I want, when I want...oh the start of parenthood :) And my ugly eye is causing me to be anti-social. Public outings and being around a lot of people at once doesn't thrill me anymore. Not just the way I look, but I hate not being able to focus to make eye contact, and sometimes its real painful. Also, my hips are starting to hurt more often, like I can feel them widening. I've noticed when I lay on my right side, my left hip gets tingly and goes numb. I've been told to lay on my left side, rather than my right, but its tough when I am sleeping because it's already hard enough to get comfortable!
Miss Anything: Seeing clearly.
Sleep Time: 10pm
My Exercises: Prenatal yoga at Yoga4You in Savage, on Sundays, with 5 other pregnant friends. And shiatsu! A guy named K.C Giwa, Empty Hand Body Work, comes into my work on Wednesdays and provides 30min sessions for whoever signs up. Shiatsu is Japanese for "finger pressure"; it is a type of alternative medicine consisting of finger and palm pressure, stretches, and other massage techniques. It as a way to help people relax and cope with issues such as stress, muscle pain, nausea, anxiety, and depression. It is good for pregnancy because it really gets your fluids moving, providing more energy. I love it!
Fun Moment Since Last Update: All of our hardwork on the baby's room. We installed the closet organizer, put together the crib, the cubby, the book wall shelving, the dresser and the glider/ottoman. Plus I have sewn a fitted sheet and a changing pad cover, and am almost done with the ruffled crib skirt. It's looking great. So excited to see it all done! And glad we got an early start on it because it has already been getting hard to stand up, sit down, stand up, bend over, etc to do all my crafts and move furniture around. Kevin has been a rockstar, for the fact that he's getting so far on the basement, while also helping me with baby's room! Love him!!
Gender Idea: Girl
Maternity Clothes: Yes, finally I have enough maternity clothes to make it a whole work week!
Labor Signs: None
Looking Forward To: We get to go back in (Jan 31) for another ultrasound because the sonographer didn't get a good picture of her face/eyes/lips when we were in for our mid-pregnancy ultrasound, because she was tucked down with her face in my placenta, and she wouldn't turn around no matter what I did. She's been in that position every ultrasound I've ever had. The sonographer said I really need to drink a lot of water for the next ultrasound so my bladder pushes her out of that little nook. So we will see. And my 26/27 week OB appt is that day, too where I do the glucose testing for diabetes. Lets hope all is well! And then...it's my friend Liz's wedding Feb 2. Super excited for her!!

Craft Day with Serena :)

Today Kevin had plans at the Lovera household to help Alex with some sheetrock in their basement, so I decided to go over too and craft with Serena. I wanted to sew a changing pad cover & a fitted sheet for the baby's room. I had researched some blog tutorials to follow, and figured two heads are better than one...plus, she wanted to learn so that when its her turn :)

We followed this blog for the DIY CHANGING PAD COVER

And this blog for the DIY FITTED CRIB SHEET

And when we were done, we continued to work on the ruffled crib skirt, thats been another easy, but time consuming project I've started...but oh baby will it be damn cute when its done!?

Book Wall

Kevin hung the book wall shelves for the baby's room tonight!!! And I filled it with lots of old books I had collected for my classroom...when I was going to become a teacher. But I'd like to get some newer baby books, and some classics like I grew up with good 'ol Dr Suess!
I can't take the credit for this cute decor...it was another idea off Pinterest :) Book Wall
And I bought the shelves at IKEA, they are the 45" Ribba Picture Ledge

Basement progress:

Kevin has been working hard down in the basement! He did all the plumbing, electrical and framing. He sheet rocked the back 2 rooms and bathroom. Then he hired a couple guys from his work to rock the rest of it, and do the taping. Kevin is now hanging doors and trim in the back rooms. The taper is still working on this bigger area...as you can see there are a lot of corners and soffits :)

Had A Great Weekend

Although my eye makes me miserable, I had a great weekend this weekend, mainly because I feel like I got a lot accomplished...and if you know me I have to check something of my to-do-list each day in order to be happy and feel productive. Plus I got to spend some quality time with 3 of my besties.

Friday night after work I went to the Mall of America with my mom to buy some more maternity clothes at Motherhood. I got 4 pairs of pants and a couple shirts! I really need pants that fit, so that was perfect, and although I feel guilty spending money on myself, it makes getting ready in the mornings go smoother! Motherhood also has some cute shorts, capris and Tshirts out, so I am going to have to shop once more before we go to Florida. Then I went over to my friend Danielle's to get my hair done. I decided to go dark again! And I needed a trim REAL bad. She even plucked and trimmed my eyebrows...something that's hard for me to see with my vision. So huge thanks to her for making me feel pretty again. Fresh ends are like a breath of fresh air, hahaha!

Saturday, Courtney and I went to Babies R Us and started my baby registry. I needed some help from a recent mama, and Kevin didn’t care to go, and I wasn’t going to force him and watch him mope around ;) plus, us together know nothing about baby stuff. Court had great insights on many products, what’s really needed and what’s not, and what’s a better brand, etc. I feel like we got carried away and scanned like everything insight...so note to people coming to my showers - I am not greedy, my registry is just ideas. And I don’t want everything pink! Preferably purple :) or gray, or yellow, or green, or whatever. Its though because everything is either pink or blue. And for the large items like swings, bouncers, pack n play, high chair, etc. there’s not many cute gender neutral ones. So I had some tough decisions. I did also register at Target for some of the same things because I know not everyone makes it to a Babies R Us (although I hope they do, because there’s a larger selection!) but at Target a lot of stuff was on clearance, going out of stock, I am guessing new stuff is coming in so I will have to check back. Plus I've been told each Target has different things in stock. I also registered online on Amazon, because Kevin and I do majority of our shopping on Amazon. Stuff is always cheaper (and no taxes) and we have a "Prime" account so everything is free 2-day shipping :)

Okay back to my fun weekend....from there I went over to my friend Serena's mom's house because she is going to alter my bridesmaid dress for Liz's wedding in 3 weeks (Feb 2 - ughh I hope my eye has a good day for all the pictures!) The dress is long and dark purple and shows my bump just a little.
Then Serena offered to help me with the start of sewing a ruffled crib skirt I want to make for baby’s room. And when I say “help” I mean she did all the sewing because I couldn’t see well enough to sew a straight line, but I did measure and cut the fabric and iron the hems...just very slowly, hahaha! After 3.5 hours, we had the layout of the skirt all sewn together with our first ruffle!!! So stay tuned because it is gonna be “ombre” with 3 shades of purple. So excited!
Sunday, Kevin helped me with dishes, laundry & cleaning…what a guy! And then I was off to prenatal yoga with some other pregnant friends in Savage at Yoga4You. It was relaxing, although I was mostly focused on figuring out how to do the movements and positions correctly because I have never done yoga before. So next time I should be able to focus more on the breathing and relaxing. After that I stopped over at our friends Craig & Carrie’s house to see their new baby boy, Cole Thomas.
He is such a cute little peanut, born on New Years day and only 6lbs 12oz and 20.5in. It was great to hear Carrie’s stories and insights about delivery. Still hard to believe I am next...

Happy New Year 2013!!

New Year's this year was pretty low key. We went to dinner with some friends at Tavern on France and then back to Kevin's friend, Justin Roehning's, house - where his girlfriend Megan is also pregnant, we are 3 weeks apart, so it's always fun chatting with her. Everyone else played drinking card games and then we watched the ball drop and went home. Fun stuff...
